Since ancient Greek and Roman times a Master of Ceremonies, or MC, has organised and run celebration events. In England, for over 250 years, the MC role has been performed by a professional ‘Toastmaster’, dressed in traditional formal evening dress of ‘white tie and tails’ but with a red tailcoat instead of a black one*. For centuries the Toastmaster has been a special part of the English ceremonial and banqueting scene by adding dignity, elegance and colour to every occasion, embellishments that many believe are indispensible.
Organisers and banqueting managers alike have, for centuries, regarded the toastmaster as the essential finishing touch that brings everything together and ensures perfection of their events. John Grosse is the perfect exponent !
